The Department of Civil Engineering, established in 2011, is renowned for its state-of-the-art laboratories and highly qualified, experienced faculty. The department effectively implements an outcome-based education philosophy, ensuring students gain technical knowledge that goes beyond the standard curriculum. Our state-of-the-art laboratories, advanced software facilities, and dedicated faculty members ensure that students receive a holistic educational experience that prepares them for success in their chosen careers.

Department actively encourage our students to participate in technical festivals hosted by premier institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), providing them with opportunities for networking, skill development, and exposure to industry trends.

The Department comprises 17 faculty members, six of whom hold Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Rajendra Magar, Dean and Principal of the School of Engineering & Technology, earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay in 2011 and received the Excellence in Ph.D. Thesis Award for outstanding research contributions from IIT Bombay.

The department offers an undergraduate program with an intake of 60 students, as well as a postgraduate program with 42 students, specializing in Construction Engineering & Management and Structural Engineering. Additionally, the department operates a Ph.D. research centre with an intake of ten candidates.

A Nodal Centre for ISRO-Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, has been established within the department, where both faculty members and students participate in various certification courses. The department also hosts student chapters such as the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which organize a variety of activities for students.

The project laboratory is well-equipped with numerous computers and various civil engineering software, providing students with hands-on practice. Many alumni are employed abroad in leading firms in the USA, Australia, Canada, Dubai, Qatar, the UK, and more. Additionally, many graduates work in prominent companies across India, including Reliance, L&T, Structwel, Carbon Craft, and HCC.

Vision of the Department

To be the most sought after academic, research & practice-based Department of Civil Engineering that others would wish to emulate.

Mission of the Department

Creating Exuberant Civil Engineering Professionals.

Mission Elements

M1: To implement the outcome-based education (OBE) philosophy.
M2: To prepare learners for innovative learning skills.
M3: To provide necessary facilities, machinery, equipment, atmosphere, and ambience that would enable quality academics, research and practice.
M4: To create an ecosystem for professional competition, lifelong learning and reward mechanisms.
M5: To prepare learners for employment, entrepreneurship, higher studies, societal welfare, research and innovations.

Programme Outcomes

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and
an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences

Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions for complex problem

Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an
understanding of the limitations.

Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable
development.

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage
projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broadest context of technological change.
